Don't miss it!
I first saw this book on a visit to the States in Feburary 1997. Since then I have been kicking myself for not buying it, seeing as it cannot be found anywhere! It is the complete sourcebook of Krynn, a must for all Role Players or Gamers, and even fanatical Krynn Collectors. It contains background information on the Heroes of the Lance and even Kenderish maps. There are songs, recipes, and the book itself is embodied with the true spirit of Dragonlance Adventuring. Being a small-time collector and currently owning 48 D.L. books, take my advice- this is not an oppertunity to be missed!

A great Dragonlance companion..
Being a fan of Dragonlance for many years, but also being unlucky to not get this book the first time it was published, I was very happy to see that the publishers decided to put this book up for sale again. "Leaves from the Inn of the Last Home", is great if you want to know more history on the Dragonlance. It has a lot of info on the Gods of Krynn. There is deeply detailed information about the past of Krynn. Including wars, gods, dragons, and anything else you could possibly want to know.

There are also songs, poems, and recipes. Many of the songs and poems were published in the original Chronicles or Legends. But it is nice to have them in one place in easy reach. The recipes range from Gully Dwarf Stew to Otik's spicy potatoes. This book is definatley an entertaining companion to the Dragonlance world. People looked for it everywhere when it out out-of-print. So what better time to get it than now when they are publishing it again.

The Best Source Book for Dragonlance
This books has lots of information like the legends, songs, recipes, and lots more this book is one of the best source book i ever had i have most of the books.. from the world of krynn., and got lucky to have the copy .. so.. wish they gonna reprint it.. thanks..

Vignettes of War
Published in Paperback by Jona Books (01 February, 2003)
Author: Harvey Q. Hickman
Average review score:

"Vignettes Of War", A Great Book!!
I just finished reading Quim Hickman's book "Vignettes Of War". I found it to be gripping and really enjoyed Mr Hickmans dry humor. The book gave me the fealing that I was on the front line with him and the riflemen of Baker Company. I found how they felt before an attack. On a lighter side: the food in the service was bad. Very bad!
Mr Hickman writes of the bitter cold and the reaction to the loss of friends in a way that makes you think of the desolation of war.

I read about battles that I had never heard of . The book shows you what it was like to fight in the Maginot Line and then the Siegfried Line. I think I will always remember how one man behaved when he was trapped behind the German lines.

Mr Hickman points out that not all attacks were successful, and I learned of the failures and how complex even small actions can be to the lives involved with conflict. The so-called fog of war was brought out .

In reading I found most men were valient soldiers. In contrast there were men who couldn't "take it". This book points out the harsh realities of war!

The book not only gave me an insight to a war that I've only heard and read about but put a human face on it. I had the fealing of war from a man that lived it. It's a great book!!

A Timely War Book!
Having never been in combat, I was utterly fascinated reading Vignettes of War. Quim Hickman's book concerns itself with the daily lives of riflemen as they experience the uncertainties and terrors of war. Most faced the front lines with valor and strength. A few faced them with cowardice. Hickman details their reactions, as well as his own.

Hickman was an untrained medic during World War II. He stumbled into the position because his vision was poor. But by ministering to the riflemen who were wounded, he formed a bond with many of them. Because he was so close to them, he was able to write about soldiers like Shorty Roberts, who took a powerful Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) away from a soldier immobilized by fear and used it to stop enemy fire. He saw which litter bearers were willing to risk their lives for fallen riflemen. He saw which soldiers faked illness or hid out in an outhouse with trousers pulled up in order to avoid combat. But mostly he saw and recorded numerous instances of outstanding valor by soldiers who probably were never rewarded with a medal because an officer was not there to observe their heroic acts.

This book makes me grateful to all the soldiers of every war we have fought, including the present one.

Vignette of War
Poignant is the word that comes to mind when I think of Quim Hickman's Vignettes of War. A hero who didn't choose to be a hero, medic Hickman saves lives and takes us with him as he follows his fellow foot soldiers into battle. Mr. Hickman paints vivid scenes and touches my heart with his wisdom on war and the men who had to be there, whether they want to be there or not. Well-worth reading. Real without too much graphic gore.

Don't Be Give Up
Published in Paperback by PageFree Publishing (July, 2002)
Author: Shirley Skufca Hickman

Peeking through the window
This book held very special meaning to me as the "Uncle Johnny" and "Nellie Carson" in the book, were my parents. I had heard bits of pieces of the stories Shirley tells in the book, from my parents over the years. Shirley provided a beautifully written context around these stories. I felt as if I were standing outside of a window in Crested Butte, peering back into my parents' and relatives' lives. It was an eerie yet comforting feeling for me. Needless to say, a few tears were shed during the course of reading this book.

The essence of Crested Butte is beautifully captured in this book - of times gone by, fiercely loyal friendships, a unique blend of ethnic diversity, socioeconomic hardship we cannot begin to understand, and a tenacity to make it through the hard times. "Don't Be Give Up" was a mantra of my grandmother's that I believe lives on in our family blood today. Thanks Shirley, for capturing the memories on paper and for giving us a very unique view of how World War II affected the lives of a fiercely proud people in a small coal-mining town in Colorado.

Warmth, humanity and decency radiates from every page
While I have no doubt that this book can be enjoyed by children as well as adults (after all, I enjoyed at 60 years old), I would certainly recommend this to a parent to read to a young daughter or granddaughter. Hickman really captures the "feel" of childhood through the eyes of a young girl. This book made me pause and think of my own childhood and I realized how much gender affected my perceptions. I would have conceded this point without argument on a rational basis, but this book made me feel it on an emotional one.

The best part of the book, however, is the warmth, humanity and decency that radiates from every page. This is a book that could easily have lapsed into sentimentality, but never did. Hickman has obviously told this story with love and affection for her family, but it is not affected. They are not the paper dolls with which she played as a child; they are real human beings. Their love of country and family shines out in each differently, but yet is a common theme to all.

A superb book!
This book is very well written. The stories in it come alive and so do the characters.

As all youngsters do, we attached meanings to words that made sense to us. The author does this in a humorous and meaningful
way. This book brought back many childhood memories to me.

Her ability to tie this in with World War II and the people in small western town makes this a book you don't want to put down.
The elements of suspense, sadness, humor, and the thoughts of gownups are real to us all.

My queen... Its your move.
Absouloutly the greatest three novels of a fantasic series. I could go on and on but why? If you havent read these books, read the first series then come back and prepare to be transported back to an amazing place.

The books where, as in Raist's words, more than perfect.
Where do I start on how awesome the books where? Not only where they bueatifully written(better than Astinius himself; please don't let him read this!:-) ), they where totally packed full of action adventure and that lovavable kender Tasselhoff! ( For those totally dragonlance illiterate; let me update you on all characters, Raist is the dark mage whose soul was forged during a test of power for becoming a mage, Astinius is the scribe of the gods, some believe him to be the god of the book, gilean himself, and tasselhoff is a kender who actually has a concious!!(thats amazing, seeing as how all kender think they do not have to go by the laws other people do!))

Anyways, Goldmoon's supposed death in the gully dawrfs' lands was a bitter event that changed the rag-tag team of heroes forever. The one good thing about this happening was that she became a true cleric of Mishkal, goodess of healing.(okay, okay, your going to have to read to find out what I mean if you don't alredy know.)

The teaching of Tika and how to use a sword was totally hillarious, especially when she managed to save herself from goblins or something by accident(snicker, snicker) (Could you imagine the look on old sturms face?!! ;-) ) Well I could go on and on (as a said before, like tasselhoff) but you probably have a life(and what computer lover wouldn't?) so I'll shut up now before Flint's ghost comes after me with a hammer or something(IEEEEK!!;Scary thought!)

So as in the famous words of raist "we shall meet again."

Thus does the saga continue.

The War of the Lance has ended. The world has become peaceful again. Or has it??

The Arch-Mage Raistlin Majere, Master of the Tower of Palanthas, Master of the Past and Present, seeks more power. Through his Art, he intends to challenge the gods.

The Priestess Crysania seeks to stop him, but in her attempts, she begins to become drawn to him, the light of her goodness blinding her from the truth.

The Warrior Caramon, once a great hero, now turned the town drunk. After the war, without his brother, Caramon felt un-needed. When his wife kicks him from his house, he goes on a journey of looking. Intending just to find Crysania and then follow her for a while, Caramon is over his head as he and the happy-go-lucky kender, Tasslehoff Burrfoot, are thrust through time in a mission to "save a soul, nothing more. Nothing less."

Tasselhoff Burrfoot, the little, curious kender, joins his friend Caramon in Caramon's travels, and by entering a time traveling spell, he enables time to be changed.

And thus, Raistlin takes the place of the great mage Fistandantilus, he goes on with his twin, in the place of the General, Pheragas, to fight the Dwarf Gate Wars and gain enterance to the portal to the Abyss. With the entrance of the kender, Tasslehoff, into the river of time, the original outcome of the past can be altered completely.

An Innovator's Tale: New Perspectives for Accelerating Creative Breakthroughs
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (21 December, 2001)
Author: Craig Hickman
Average review score:

Creative and fun!
After reading "An Innovator's Tale" it is easy to see why Craig Hickman is internationally recognized as a leader in Management Strategies. Hickman uses his wealth of experience to create a suspenseful novel that teaches new perspectives. I loved it!

A great way to learn about innovation
This book is a really fun read and a refreshing change of pace from the typical, theory-oriented business book. It presents an engaging mystery story as well as several enlightening perspectives on innovation. I really liked how I got to learn about innovation by watching the life of an interesting business executive from a "fly-on-the-wall" position. I'll take that over 300 pages of dry theory any day.

An Innovator's Tale is an Innovative and Great Read
Craig Hickman has written a new, refreshing, and innovative kind of business book. He has literally created a new genre that is exciting, and, I'm sure, one to be imitated. An Innovator's Tale teaches the reader worldclass business concepts and methodologies -- in this case focused on unlocking creativity and innovation -- in a novel format. The business concepts are solid and practical, and the novel is suspensful and intriguing. The combination makes for an enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book for professionals who are looking for a better way to innovate and unlock the creative genius of their employees.

The Jepson Manual: Higher Plants of California
Published in Hardcover by University of California Press (April, 1993)
Authors: James C. Hickman and Willis Linn Jepson
Average review score:

The Best Technical Review of California Plants
There is no easy way to identify a plant to species, but if it is in California it is far easier to use this volume than the others. Although it was written in 1925, the line drawings are for me priceless. Be advised that names change in 75 years even if plants do not, you will need a modern flora to reference the old name. HIGHLY recommended, but technical.

Good Reference and Learning Guide
This is an excellent guide. Very comprehensive, however you must have formal education in botany and plant ID in order to effectively use the guide to key plants to genus and or species. Not recommended for the average person. Just people who are plant nerds!

Not for the uninitiated
This book is an excellent botanical key listing a huge number of plants. It is not your average "audubon" guide, since it requires you to key out the plant in question using botanical systematics. Definitely a good reference book, but hard to use casually to find out what that tree is in your front yard!

And God Created Squash: How the World Began
Published in School & Library Binding by Albert Whitman & Co (March, 1993)
Authors: Martha Whitmore Hickman, Giuliano Ferri, and Abby Levine
Average review score:

Fun, creative - love it!
What a fun, creative re-telling of the Bible's creation story! It shows a "fun" side of God that captivates kids and makes them think. The artist's rendering of God shows a friendly, approachable man with white hair. The people at the end of the book are wonderfully multi-racial. After God creates them he tells them, "...if you want me, speak my name. Remember, I made you for company, for me and for each other. So we could love each other. And I will never forget you.," And on the last page he says, "You may not see me, but I'll be here...".

What a fantastic book!
This book is wonderful for family members of all ages, even if you're not particularly religious. God is portrayed as a kind and gentle being with a sense of humor. God seems to have created the world when he was in quite a playful mood, and this book quickly became my four year old son's favorite anytime story. I anticipate many years of warm fuzzies from this book and highly recommend it to any and all parents of families who believe in God as our creator.

Classic story leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy
My 5 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is beautifully illustrated, funny and warm. Its a beautiful way to share the story of our creation with our children. I loved it!

Average review score:

The art of my name!
I was born with the name of Raistlin.. naturally i would want to see the character i was named after. This book provided me with the start to my passion with Dragon Lance.
It goes into detail and explains everything (how the dragon riders stay on the dragons etc.).
I have one copy and so does my Dad, but mine has pages missing from when he used them as posters. I want another copy but it depends how much i am willing to pay on e bay.
This book is worth getting for a price such as £50.

Enjoy.

Excellent, excellent book!
This book is worth every penny I paid to get it. It includes a short story about how the Dragonlance epic came to be, the four original color roughs (by Larry Elmore), sketches of the dragonlance and saddle and how to use it, sketches and pictures of the many types of draconians, armor and weapons, beautiful oil and acrylic pictures, a little history and pictures of the Heroes of the Lance, pictures and history of minor characters such as Lord Lorac, the elven king, and much, much more! This book is a must-have for any Dragonlance collector. You won't be disappointed!

Lavish selection of TSR's best works
This gorgeous book is one of the finest compendiums of TSR artwork ever created - it is loaded full of hundreds of illustrations, free of print, on glossy paper; included are every piece of full-color artwork ever created for Dragonlance (up through 1987), supplemented with rich text and many, many concept sketches that appear nowhere else! For Dragonlance afficionados, or those who appreciated classic art by Easley, Caldwell, Parkinson, Elmore, and more, this is the ideal collection.

Katrina's Wings: Miracles Happen in the Most Unexpected Places
Published in Hardcover by Five Star (November, 2002)
Author: Patricia Hickman
Average review score:

This is a great well-written book!!!
This is a great book. I was transported into the 1970s in the Deep South. This book made me feel if I was with Katrina in everything she does. I hope Mrs.Hickman will keep writing books in this style because I thought it was better than her previous works. Keep it up Mrs. Hickman!

Southern Fiction at its Finest.
I loved this book! Taught writing, haunting prose, compelling characters all join together to make Katrina's Wings not just a fine read but a true experience. Dive in, take root, and soar. Patricia Hickman's book will stand the test of time. --Lisa Samson, author of The Church Ladies

GROWING UP, SOUTHERN STYLE!
Katrina and her quirky family are captured in all their vividness with the author's abundant use of poetry and imagery. The writing sings throughout. The scenes evoke images from writings such as Housekeeping, by Marilynne Robinson, but with the hope and faith of the Christian worldview washed all over. This book could be read again and again for sheer literary enjoyment.

Voyage of the Exiles (Land of the Far Horizons, No 1)
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (January, 1995)
Author: Patricia Hickman
Average review score:

Start to a Promising Series
This book is not a typical Christian romance. It's much better. The characters aren't thrown into improbably sappy situations, in fact, it's quite the opposite. These characters are flawed, abused, and not destined for your typical fairy tale ending. People get sick, die, have to live down doing bad things, and don't necessarily end up with the first romantic pairing they are put in. This isn't normal for a Christian romance and it's refreshing to find a book that is historically realistic and still very readable.

I wait with great interest to see how things go now that the storyline has finally reached Australia.

Best Series EVER!
I loved the whole series, but book one is my favorite. Even if you're not big on the whole religion aspect, this book is an amazing mix of adventure, heartache, family values, and has great historical aspect. I love historical fiction, and I have read a lot of it, but this book was one of the prime examples of the Australian-Penile-colonies .
I got totally caught up in the entire storyline, and I was unable to put the book down, and once I finished it, I read the rest of the series, then I read the whole series all over again. The characters are so well developed, and it's as if they were real people, living a real life, not like other books where everyone seems so fake, and the situations they get involved in are so fanciful and everything is just perfect. The author keeps things real, and shows you how like would have really been.
It's a great book that I recommend for everyone to read.

Exciting Novel
This book was terrific. I could hardly put it down. I felt like I was right on the ship with the rest of the transportees.
I liked the book so much I went out and bought the rest of the series. A friend's daughter is now reading them and is really enjoying them too.
